For their remarkable progress in flying training the Officer Cadets Ike, Sunny and Mofo are promoted to Pilot Officer rank.
They are from now on considered fully-fledged operational pilots of No. 41 Squadron!

1 September 2008: 1st anniversary

by 41Sqn_Banks

About one year ago the No. 41 Squadron RAF was founded by Gravit and Banks. I can't remember the exact date, as it was more a space than a point of time. Anyway in September 2007 our web presence went online and by this it became official. Short after this Stormcrow joined the squadron - the first Vic became airborne.
No personnel changes occurred in the following month and the squadron concentrated on flying training and setting up the infrastructure.
In spring 2008 the "dry spell" was over with the recruitment of Mofo, Ike, Growler, Rythm and Sunny within a 2-month-periode. Now the squadron had the personnel strength but still lacked the skill to be considered "operational".
During summer 2008 we mainley concentrated on all aspects of flying training but nevertheless flew many operational missions against and together with other squadrons. In the later we propably couldn't always shine with individual skills but we stood out in the crowd by discipline and teamwork - the primary virtues of the RAF. Our finest hour so far was propably "The hunt for the Zeppelin" where we managed to cause much trouble to the enemy at a minimum of own looses in ill-fated Hurricanes.
Of course our squadron also had bad moments, most of them not during flying, but we coped them and thereby became even stronger. Remember the motto of the RAF: "Per ardua ad astra" ("Through adversity to the Stars").
In the last months Olmo joined the squadron and training clearly pays. The former erks became serious pilots - some already able to successfully lead a section. After a half year of training it's the time to considere No. 41 Squadron RAF as "operational". To be also technically prepared for the next year a major webserver update was perform in the last weeks and work on a new web presence has started.

I'm really proud about the development of the squadron and what we achieved in the last year. I want to say a specially thank you to the other founder members Gravit and Stormcrow who made all this possible, but also to the other members who coin the appeal of the squadron.

"Tally ho!" and best regards
Flight Lieutenant Banks, Commanding Officer
