Took off from Y-29 as RED 2 on S/Ldr Merfort's wing for a low level, night ground attack on Köln-Wahn airfield. i was tasked with removing the AAA guns at the field. about 2 mins before my attack run i experienced flak, i saw the AAA guns firing enabling me to locate, i turned to attack and launched my bombs onto the target clearing out most of the guns, i turned round to run in with guns to finish off the job but Skipper was already lined up so he took out the other gun. I then turned my attention to the planes on the field, i scored hits on them on the first pass, and then again on the second pass on my way out. i noticed 4+fires on the field. Lost the flight in the darkness so proceeded to RTB using landmarks. I arrived back before the rest of the squad so i circled the field with lights to assist the rest of the squad in locating the base. Skipper had to put down in a field from engine damage. Landed safe with no damage. | ||
